Anatomy of a Drill is Constraint Designer's Toolkit's introductory series to constraint-led practice design. If you're new, start here. Anatomy of a Drill is meant to provide the foundation for everything else CDTK will explore while providing a great starting point for coaches looking for practical tools they can implement now.
Anatomy of a Drill is split into 2 parts:
In Anatomy of a Drill Volume 1, we first explore the basics of constraints, including what a constraint is and why they're important, some of the most common types, and how these can be applied to any drill or small-sided game.
Anatomy of a Drill Volume 2 then looks at the basic structure of what makes up a drill or small-sided game and offers a general framework for thinking through practice activities.
Important topics explored:
- What is a constraint, why are they important, and how can coaches use them more effectively
- How to use constraints as the main driver of learning
- Some of the most common constraints and how to use them
- How to improve existing drills and small-sided games with constraints
- Why intent is so important, and how a good intent shapes everything
- How to design an intentional drill or small-sided game with constraints that's ready to use in your next practice
