WHAT IS CONSTRAINT DESIGNER'S TOOLKIT?

Constraint Designer's Toolkit (CDTK) is a resource for coaches on any level looking for real ways to improve their practice design. CDTK explores evidence-based methods for designing intentional drills and small-sided games to elevate your players' learning.

IMPROVING PRACTICE WITH CONSTRAINTS

DESIGN WITH INTENTION

Constraint Designer's Toolkit explores constraint-led design aimed at making practice activities more intentional and effective for learning. Constraints are simply boundaries which guide player exploration, behavior, and learning. These can be things like time, space, or rules. CDTK focuses on how to use constraints effectively to create small-sided games and drills specific to your players using methods from the Constraints-Led Approach (CLA).

DESIGN ROOTED IN MOTOR LEARNING RESEARCH

CDTK IS ROOTED IN MODERN SKILL ACQUISITION RESEARCH:

Constraints-Led Approach (CLA)
Representative Learning Design (RLD)
Ecological Dynamics
Dynamic Systems Theory

NO ONE SIZE FITS ALL METHOD

PRACTICAL APPLICATION FOR ANY COACH

Constraint Designer's Toolkit is meant to provide real tools and ideas for any coach. While CDTK is rooted in the CLA, coaches using any approach can benefit from constraint-led design. In fact, it's likely that you already use some tools and design methods used in the CLA. The methods and tools explored are a result of learning from great coaches, motor learning research, and actual personal application of these methods at every level of the game, all the way from grassroots to pros.
